The Life & Death of Hollywood
...or so they said.
An excellent read from industry, academic and creative perspectives. It seems to have the Writer's landscape at its heart, but in truth it reveals the wider trajectory of the entertainment and creative industry as a whole (in Hollywood/USA).
▶ Instructive for media ecosystems everywhere (some beholden to the North American status, others less so).
▶ Required reading for creative communities (yes, even 'creators').
▶ A bit sobering too, to contemplate the inevitable subjugation of creative entertainment and storytelling (and yes, the art) to the demands of the 'market'. Of course, you can argue it has always been thus, but the sweep across decades is to be seen here.
▶ Yet, promising to think that with the rapid pace of change in so many spheres that we are witnessing, positive pathways must be round the corner.
Surely there will always be original voices, the desire to hear and see them, and the wherewithal to make sure they are expressed and put out there.
