I Wasn’t really planning on a missive this week, and its a tiny one.
A quick little video because I happened to notice that 23 October was the day- 24 years ago- that Steve Jobs revealed a click wheel that would would take us a very long way.
Curiously enough, on the same date in 2015, Adele released her biggest hit, that would power its way to a record-breaking number of downloads.
From burning tracks and firewire cables to mp3s and downloads, to music infinitum in our little phones, things have moved along indeed.
Despite this abundance, I end the video with a liking that sometimes we still find ourselves wondering, what to play? So maybe I could share some of my recent listenings.
One of my all time favourite albums, The Long Black Veil from The Chieftains, which features the likes of Sting, Mark Knopfler, Sinead o’Connor, Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithful.
This featured in my writing sessions this week- some calm yet purposeful music in the soundtrack for Monument Valley:
The new Tron movie by most accounts seems eminently missable, but the soundtrack is by Nine Inch Nails, so I had to check it out. Not bad at all.
A relatively random but chill Diwali playlist I quickly made, for a relaxed festive gathering this year.
And there’s always this utterly eclectic playlist, a storing ground for my music-sharing Whatsapp group where the only rule is that it has to be music!
Happy listening, whatever you may play!
